post 3. friday the 13 (rottnest 1)

well, going to try writing up a recent trip to rottnest isle. probably going to be a multi-series post, hopefully, as we did take heaps of pics. we'll see how it goes.

so our brave little party (Kelvin, Sherly, Andy and I) set out on 13/4/2007, planning to meet up in wellington train station at 8 am, destination rottnest. yesh, friday the thirteenth. auspicious. you'll see.

after an sleep-inducing trip by train with other drowsy commuters, we arrived in fremantle and managed to find the ferry stand without any trouble, which was surprising given our go-there-and -look-around plan. tickets to rottnest cost a grand 50 bucks per head for a round trip. after coughing up that sum of money (along with a pound of flesh, blood, my spleen), hit the local subway to console meself and greedily consumed a bacon and egg sub. crispy bacon and gooey eggs, all wrapped up in a warm roll. mmmmmmmmmm. itx almost impossible to screw up bacon and eggs.

so here's a picture of andy, sherly, and kelvin. no, itx not a giant strawberry head in the picure. itx kelvin. ^^ lol. i should stop teasing him. no, itx not obvious since he got his hair cut. i apologize, kelvin. ^^

so here we are at the quay waiting for the ferry. for 50 bucks, it better come plated in gold. or fly.

okay, only one picture of the flying ferry. i thought we had more. but well, we forgot i guess. we forgot lotx of stuff, as you will see. so here it is, the wonderful flying ferry that will transport us to rottnest.

itx white, itx sharp, itx fast, and mostly blocked by our heads.

i lied. it doesn't fly. it transforms into a robot and carries us across the water to rottnest.

so after being carried in the robot's arms like babes across turbulent waters, we arrived at rottnest. and we forgot to take pictures again. supposed to take pictures of our departure, arrivals etc, but we forgot. we are very forgotful ppl. but i will do my best to describe it.

itx very nice, sunny, and crowded, even though itx a week day.

by this time, itx past ten already, even though we left perth at 8. most of it was spent waiting- waiting for the train, waiting for andy (who tends to wander off ^^), waiting for the ferry, waiting for the ferry to fill up (which took ages cos they wanted to fill it to the max like a slave ship. supposed to leave at 0915, didn't leave then 0945). went looking for bike rental and there was this ridiculously huge line, which we did not take a pic of again. more waiting ensured.

and more waiting, during which we observed:
  1. a kid on a trainer bike screaming for his mom; she's next to him.
  2. same kid screaming for his mom cos his bike wouldn't move (feet not on pedals, legs not moving)
  3. kid screaming for his mom cos he's left behind; she's half a foot in front of him
  4. more screaming for mom as kid crashes into bike post
kids. ^^ i should add that both kid and bike survived the incident without major harm.

finally got our bikes. poor sherly, she was the only one who couldn't get one with gears. i didn't even know there existed bikes without gears. and the bikes were heavy too.

still, we got our bikes and were finally ready to explore the isle. time: past eleven.

ps. much thanks to kelvin musa for the use of his wonderful digital camera during the trip, as well as loaning me the memory cards. great pics. ^^
